City leaders in La Crosse meet Monday to figure out spending for 2025
Last week, it was La Crosse County’s turn. Now, the La Crosse city council takes up its budget for 2025 at a special meeting Monday night.
The city is planning to spend about $72.2 million on services in the coming year, coming in about $110,000 below the budget for 2024. The largest areas for spending, police and fire, may both receive slight increases from last year. Those two areas would account for about $28 million in spending. The city’s operating tax levy is projected to be $41.5 million, which would be $2 million above the amount from a year ago.
The city compares to the $206 million budget adopted for La Crosse County last week. The budget meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall, with a public hearing on the spending plan.
