Voters in La Crosse will start hearing about more people running for mayor in the coming weeks, with the main election happening in April.

An official announcement is planned for noon Monday by La Crosse realtor Ellie McLoone, who has details about her campaign on a website.

McLoone is expected to publicly launch her bid atop Grandad Bluff.

The first candidate to announce a run for La Crosse mayor was B.L.A.C.K. executive director, Shaundel Spivey. He, too, used the blufftop as the site for his announcement back in October.

McLoone has started a website for her campaign, identifying homelessness and public safety among serious problems to be addressed by city government.

Candidates for mayor and city council in La Crosse traditionally begin collecting signatures on nomination papers in December. A primary election would be in February, with the main vote for mayor coming in April.

So far, incumbent Mayor Mitch Reynolds has not announced for reelection. On La Crosse Talk PM, Reynolds has been asked multiple times — sometimes in joking fashion — whether he would, but Reynolds has yet to announce a decision.
