Realtor McLoone scheduled to launch run for mayor this week; Mayor Reynolds has not announced plans yet
Voters in La Crosse will start hearing about more people running for mayor in the coming weeks, with the main election happening in April.
An official announcement is planned Monday by La Crosse realtor Ellie McLoone, who has a website with details about her campaign. McLoone is expected to publicly launch her bid atop Grandad Bluff. Shaundel Spivey was the first candidate to publicly enter the mayor’s race in October, and he used the blufftop as the site for his announcement.
McLoone has started a website for her campaign, identifying homelessness and public safety among serious problems to be addressed by city government.
Candidates for mayor and city council in La Crosse traditionally begin collecting signatures on nomination papers in December. A primary election would be in February, with the main vote for mayor coming in April.
So far, incumbent Mayor Mitch Reynolds has not announced for re-election to another four-year term. On WIZM’s La Crosse Talk, Rick Solem recently asked Reynolds whether hiring a city administrator would affect another campaign for mayor. Reynolds said he doesn’t have an answer for that right now.
Mayor Reynolds says La Crosse should have both an administrator and an elected mayor, to work together on managing city business.
