Attorney appointed for suspect in Crawford County stabbing death

A public defender has been appointed to represent the suspect in a recent Crawford County murder.

Thirty-nine-year-old Jesse Slaughter of Lancaster is accused in the stabbing death of a Prairie du Chien man, 65-year-old Daniel Welsch. The stabbing happened in late October, at a house in Prairie.

Welsch reportedly died after being attacked with a sharp object. A warrant had been issued for Slaughter’s arrest after he failed to show up for a court hearing in Oneida County this summer. A cash bond of $250,000 was ordered in October.

A pathologist from Madison may testify about the death at Slaughter’s next hearing, scheduled for December 3rd.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
