Fry to be examined for competence, as he waits to be tried for shooting of his stepfather
Nearly a year after being arrested for the fatal shooting of his stepfather, a La Crosse man will be tested to see if he is competent for trial.
Forty-two-year-old Alan Fry wants to plead not guilty by reason of mental illness to the death of Brady Fredrickson. Fry already entered a plea of not guilty shortly after the shooting in January, at the house on Farnam Street where he and Fredrickson lived together. He’s now charged with 1st degree homicide, and also might be tried for arson. Authorities say a fire occurred in the house on the night of the shooting.
Judge Gloria Doyle has ordered an examination for Fry. After he’s evaluated by a doctor, Fry is expected back in La Crosse County court in early December. His bond is set at $750,000.
