Deer season hunters’ safety

As I See It

Wisconsin’s deer opener. It’s finally here. It’s time to pack our gear and head to deer camp. But before we hit the woods, let’s review some hunter safety basics.

Always wear your blaze orange or your bright pink. It keeps you visible to hunters, and it also keeps you compliant with the law. Remember, no deer is worth risking your safety or the safety of others. Always point your muzzle in a safe direction. Keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot. And only shoot once you’ve identified your target and know what’s beyond it. If you’re in a tree stand, make sure it’s secured before you climb it. And always put on your safety harness. A fall from even just a few feet can cause serious injury. And never, ever climb in or out of your deer stand with a loaded firearm.

Let’s make this a memorable deer opener but for the right reasons. Hunt smart, stay safe and bring home the big one.
