A year after not enough candidates, La Crosse School District seeking to fill out board spots
Every year, three school board spots are on the April ballot for La Crosse Schools.
Last year, only two candidates got on the ballot. This spring, the district is likely hoping to avoid that.
The La Crosse School Board is inviting potential candidates to a workshop Dec. 2, to find out The workshop begins at 5 p.m. at the Hogan Administrative Center.
Last election, multiple people ran a write-in campaign for La Crosse’s third school board opening — won by Jim Bagniewski.
If there are more than six candidates who qualify for the ballot, a February primary will be held to reduce the field to three.
Candidates may begin circulating nomination school board papers Dec. 1. The filing deadline will be 5 p.m. Jan. 7, with the main election on April 1.
Seats now held by board president Juan Jimenez, Merideth Garcia and Katie Berkedal will be up for election this spring.
