Onalaska woman, who allegedly was looking at phone before hitting and killing 87-year-old, could be tried
A 40-year-old woman, accused of vehicular homicide for a pedestrian death in Onalaska, could be scheduled for trial soon.
Megan Urch of Onalaska had a court hearing on Thursday, where La Crosse County Judge Ramona Gonzalez found probable cause to hold a trial.
Onalaska police detective Chad Marcon testified in court Thursday that video showed Urch’s car never slowing down before hitting 87-year-old Darlene Wozney, who was crossing Main Street, midday.
Wozney died at a hospital shortly after being hit.
Urch allegedly was looking at her cellphone while driving. The judge said evidence suggests that Urch should have seen Wozney in the crosswalk.
Urch could enter a not guilty plea at her next court hearing in January.
