Half La Crosse city council districts up for election now have contested races

Published

Four of the eight La Crosse city council races on the spring ballot now have two candidates, and District 5 has its first.

Olivia Stone is running for the special election in District 5, which is often referred to as the UW-La Crosse district.

Back in July, the city council voted 7-4 not to appoint someone to the seat, opting to leave District 5 without representation for eight months.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Jan. 7 to file all ballot access documents.

Here’s how the other districts up for election look:

DISTRICT 7:
Mac Kiel (incumbent)
Gary Padesky

DISTRICT 8
Mackenzie Mindel

DISTRICT 9
Chris Woodard (I)

DISTRICT 10
Jennifer Trost (I)

DISTRICT 11
Martin Gaul (I)
Cyrstal Bedford

DISTRICT 12
Doug Happel (I)
Lisa Weston

DISTRICT 13
Mark Neumann (I)
Paul Brown

In the mayoral election, still three candidates are in the running — Shaundel Washington-Spivey, Ellie McLoone and Vicki Markussen.

A primary in that race — and any race with more than two candidates — will conclude Feb. 20.
