The hours when you have to pay to park in La Crosse’s downtown ramps could be expanded soon.

City police are suggesting that the dollar-an-hour parking rate in the ramps be increased by four hours on weekdays, and extended to Saturdays as well. A study determined that the added hours could bring in an extra $225,000 a year. Currently, the ramps charge for parking weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with free parking on weekends.

The proposal would add the hours of 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and all day Saturday to the collection times. The suggested increase is included on the agenda for the next board of public works meeting on Monday.
