Why are we still paying high food prices?

on

We have always been told when gathering with family and close friends not to discuss politics or religion.  But what about rising food prices?  We have seen increases in the food we buy at the grocery store and the food we eat at restaurants and even at sporting events.  If gas prices increase substantially or the supply chain is interrupted by something like covid or fire or flood, I can understand the need to temporarily increase the prices on goods.   But if these factors are not part of the equation, then what is the cause for paying more for the same amount of food, whether it is fresh or packaged?  Some will argue that we can blame increased part time wages have to be countered by having enough money to pay the workers.  Another argument is that the suppliers increased their prices and the store now has to pay more for food for us to buy.  Will there be a time where a news reporter will take the time to investigate whether or not these price increases were out of necessity or out of greed?  How many upper level executives have you read about that have lost their jobs lately?
