Four candidates for mayor have made the deadline to be included on La Crosse’s primary ballot in mid-February.

According to city records, Shaundel Washington-Spivey, Ellie McLoone, Vicki Markussen and Christine Kahlow have all qualified for the race to succeed retiring Mayor Mitch Reynolds.

Washington-Spivey was the first candidate to declare last September. Kahlow, the current city council president, made her declaration last week.

A fifth potential candidate, Chris Stone, entered the race in December, but did not submit nomination papers by Tuesday’s deadline.

The field of four will be narrowed to just two in the Feb. 18 primary. The general election for city offices is April 1.

Eight of the 13 city council seats in La Crosse will be on the April ballot, in District 5 and Districts 7 through 13. Just one council race, in the 7th, has three official candidates, which will also require a primary.
