The search for a new Onalaska school superintendent is picking up speed.

More than two months have passed since former Onalaska superintendent Todd Antony announced he was leaving that post, making that announcement in late October.

Now, the district has planned some meetings of focus groups for Wednesday to help in the search for a successor.

Three late-afternoon meetings are scheduled at the district office on 2nd Avenue South, involving teachers, administrators and support staff. The participants were chosen by invitation.

Those sessions will be followed by an Onalaska School Board meeting, planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday.

A notice from the district says the meetings are designed to help determine qualities wanted in the next superintendent, based on group discussions and a community survey.

Two previous administrators with the Onalaska schools, Fran Finco and Roger Fruit, were named interim superintendents in November. The district set a target date of July to have a new superintendent on the job.
