Outgoing La Crosse Mayor Reynolds on city sales tax, advice for new administration, homeless progress
La Crosse Mayor Mitch Reynolds joins WIZM for the first time since declaring he wasn’t going to run for reelection. We discuss that decision, how only four people are running to replace him, advice for the new mayor, a city sales tax, cuts to city services and a homeless update.
La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.
One of the challenges for the new mayor will be simply paying for city services and Reynolds’ breaks down his recent proposal for a city sales tax to do that.
We also discussed how a city administrator could have helped a rookie mayor,as a study group is currently looking at whether hiring that position will be beneficial.
Other things we hit on were potential cuts the city might have to make with increasing costs and a flat revenue stream, and how the city-county plan to end homelessness could be complete way sooner than the five-year window it gave itself.
