One arrested after shots fired from vehicle near Viroqua

A driver who the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office said fired a gun multiple times from his vehicle Friday evening is now in custody awaiting a court appearance.
Information from Sheriff Roy Torgerson said that around 6:30 p.m., a caller to 911 said they were driving on Highway 14 near the intersection of Highway 27 when they saw the driver of the vehicle ahead of them fire a gun.
The caller said they weren’t following the vehicle anymore but did provide a description of it.
Several minutes later, a second 911 call came in from a driver who had been rear ended by another vehicle.
That caller, who had parked at a convenience store on the south side of Viroqua, admitted having a firearm in their vehicle.
The sheriff’s office and Viroqua Police eventually concluded that both calls were related.
A firearm was found in a vehicle belonging to 49-year-old Justice William Kelly of Cuba City, Wisconsin. Justice is his first name, not a title, the sheriff’s office pointed out.

Kelly was arrested and taken to the Vernon County Jail on charges of Second Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. He’s expected to appear in court on Monday.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Children were in both vehicles at the time.
The Vernon County Department of Human Services Child Protective Services helped with the children Kelly was with until they were turned over to a responsible person.
