The countdown to spring weather continues during bitter cold

Normally, I get annoyed by other people in the media who obsess over counting things. How many hours until the election, how many days until the Super Bowl, and so on. But the winter we’re having in this part of the country has me counting on the calendar, figuring that it’s only 30 days or so until the start of spring.

Before it starts to feel spring-like, the weather forecasters tell us the region will have dangerous cold this week. La Crosse had a high of 58 during the last week of January. The best we’ve had in February was a high of 41, on Groundhog Day. Compare that to this month, a year ago. Three days with highs in the 60’s, and no temps below zero last February.
