Onalaska Police arrest man after shots fired incident

An Onalaska man is in custody after an incident Sunday morning where police said he fired a handgun in an apartment parking lot.
Police were called to 558 Braund Street at around 7:44 a.m. according to Onalaska Police Chief Charles Ashbeck.
A caller to 911said that they could hear gunfire and that a person in the parking lot was acting erratically.
When officers arrived, they found Kevin McDowell, 54, and took him into custody without incident.

They later learned that he had fired three rounds from a small caliber handgun. One of the rounds struck his car, another the side of a garage next door, with no damage found from the third round.
No one was injured from the gunfire.
It was not the first time that McDowell had contact with police. The statement from Chief Ashbeck said that he was taken to a local hospital for treatment the day before. Officers had come to the apartment building multiple times in previous days due to McDowell’s behavior.
McDowell was arrested and jailed on charges including 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Endangering Safety by use of a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of Firearm by Felon, and Disorderly Conduct while Armed.
