The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office said that a man died after the vehicle he was driving crashed overnight but wasn’t discovered until later Tuesday morning.

A news release said that a passerby saw the crashed vehicle upside down in a ditch on Highway 53 just south of Whitehall around 7:40 a.m.

When first responders got to the scene, they found the man, who’d been thrown from the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said it appeared the man was the only one in the vehicle when it crashed.

They also said that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

The man’s name isn’t being released until next of kin are notified.
