The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office has identified the 45-year-old man killed in a one-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning outside of Whitehall, Wis.

Michael Jason Kirtley died after being thrown from his vehicle when it went off the road on Highway 53 just south of Richter Road.

The crash happened sometime early Tuesday morning but wasn’t discovered until a passerby saw the vehicle upside down in a ditch about 7:39 a.m.

First responders found the body of Kirtley near the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said that speed and alcohol played a role in the incident.

They stated that it appears that Kirtley was the only one in the vehicle at the time.

They are continuing to investigate what happened that led up to the crash.
