Town Treasurer accused of taking $294K makes bond appearance

A township treasurer from Monroe County appears for a bond hearing on Thursday.

Kelly Schleusener is charged with taking $294,000 from the Town of Adrian near Tomah over a nearly three-year period dating back to April 2022.

She was jailed on Tuesday following her arrest.

Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Todd Ziegler gave Schleusener a $50,000 signature bond with conditions that include not leaving the state and not applying for or holding any public position or office.

She’s charged with Misconduct in Office and Theft exceeding $100,000.

Schleusener is back in court on April 7.

    She admitted she gambled the money away at an Indian casino. This is not the first case like this in Wisconsin. A tiny township treasurer stealing and gambling.
    These townships need to have two signatures on all checks and, since it took three years to catch her, they need annual audits over and above what’s required.
    People who handle public money need to be watched if they are casino regulars.
