The city of La Crosse may hold onto the former fire station on Monitor Street for a while longer.

City Hall had asked for purchase offers for the old firehouse, but the common council turned down one offer for $325,000 late last year. The fire department has been using the building for storage, and wants to continue that use while renovations are planned later this year on Station 3, near Central High School.

That station has not been needed for active duty since a new firehouse opened recently along La Crosse Street, on the UWL campus.
