FIRST CONTACT: What happens when aliens arrive? UW-L’s Jake Williams is running the simulation

It’s 10 years into the future, and aliens have arrived at Earth’s doorstep. How does the world react?

That’s the simulation UW-La Crosse history club president Jake Williams is running Saturday at the student union and he joined WIZM’s La Crosse Talk on Friday to explain how it works.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.

Over 100 UW-L students are taking part, playing different roles, as presidents, military leaders, the media and more. It’s called a mega game and this is the largest one Williams is hosting. The premise is, again, aliens are in Earth’s orbit, but that’s all we know. Are they hostile, friendly? Nobody participating knows, and anything can happen from peace to nuclear fallout.
