We preview the Seven Rivers Regional Robotics competition, called Reefscape, happening at the La Crosse Center Friday and Saturday.

Planning committee chair Jason Jones describes how these 51 high schools, including 11 from the area, have created robots to perform a certain task in order to win the competition and move on to the world championships in Texas.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.

The Reefscape is meant to simulate exploration beneath the ocean’s surface, having robots harvest algae, seeding coral on their reef then returning to the barge — scoring points along the way, including cooperating with opponents if need be.

The free-to-watch event takes place from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the La Crosse Center.

Last year’s regional winner was from Arcadia High School.
