A popular Viroqua restaurant is closed after a fire damaged part of the building on Saturday morning.

The Viroqua Fire Depart was called to the Viroqua Family Restaurant at 854 N. Main St. just before 5:30 a.m.

Chief Chad Buros said heavy smoke and flames were coming out of the building when firefighters arrived. Crews from Westby and La Farge were brought in to assist.

While crews were able to get the fire put out quickly, there was still heavy fire and heat damage to the building.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The chief said they’re still working on a cause. The Wisconsin State Fire Marshals Office is assisting.

The restaurant’s Facebook page said they’d be closed until further notice.
