Began the conversation discussing Sanford’s experience, before getting into some of the roles a judge can play in a community and how high-profile cases should be handled.
We talked about whether judges are too lenient and if their decisions can be a factor in tamping down things like gun violence or drug dealing in La Crosse.
Sanford is currently a court commissioner for La Crosse County’s family court. He was formerly an assistant district attorney in the county and a public defender.

Eric would make a great judge. He is fair, intelligent and professional. I’ve seen him conduct himself in the courtroom and wish more people were talking about him. While fair I also believe he would give more consideration to victims and the well being of the community. That is something lacking with the current judges and the legal system in lacrosse county. Right now it’s all about what services we can give to the perpetrators . If it worked it would be great but more often then not it doesn’t . Unfortunately based on the mailing Veenstra sent out all the current players are for him. Once again lacrosse county says “outsiders need not apply and we don’t want anyone with a different view rocking the boat”. I’m looking forward to more comments about how the judicial system in lacrosse is soft on crime.
