UPDATE: Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson said that Amanda Bjornstad appeared on Friday afternoon in Vernon County Circuit Court.

She received a $10,000 signature bond in the case against her.

Bjornstad is scheduled to return to court on April 22 at 10 a.m.

She was transferred to the Richland County Jail to complete a sentence for an earlier conviction for 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a person at a group home.

Bjornstad remains on a probation hold through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

A contract food service worker from Viroqua is arrested on sexual assault charges after having sexual contact with one of the inmates at the Vernon County Detention Center according to the sheriff.

Amanda Ann Bjornstad, 32, was arrested Thursday afternoon on charges including 2nd Degree Sexual Assault and Threats to Injure or Accuse of a Crime, said Sheriff Roy Torgerson.

Her arrest came at the end of an investigation into what happened at the detention center while she was employed at a food service company contracted to provide meals to inmates through the center’s kitchen.

Sheriff Torgerson said that they take what happened very seriously. He stated they’ll review protocols at the jail to make sure another incident like this never occurs again.  The sheriff said he’s also reported the incident to the state jail inspector.

Bjornstad is set to appear in Vernon County Circuit Court today.

She is also on a hold from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections after a conviction in Richland County last year on sexual assault charges of a person at a group home. She was on electronic monitoring from that case at the time of her arrest in Vernon County.
