La Crosse Schools superintendent Dr. Engel on Act 10 in Supreme Court race, what’s the DPI and district’s relationship with mayor

La Crosse Schools superintendent, Dr. Aaron Engel on WIZM’s La Crosse Talk discussing Act 10, which is essentially on the ballot in the state Supreme Court race. Engel also helps define the Department of Public Instruction and what the district’s role is with the La Crosse mayor (in general).
La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.
The race between Susan Crawford and Brad Schimel for Wisconsin Supreme Court essentially means Act 10 could be struck down or left alone depending on who wins. Schimel supports Act 10, and Crawford likely would vote to restore some public employees’ working rights. Engel discusses how the district interacts with its public employees and what it might mean for La Crosse if they have their rights back.
Engel also discusses the state schools superintendent job, as current DPI lead Jill Underly is on the ballot in support of public schools, going against Brittany Kinser, who leans more toward using taxpayer money for private schools.
The last thing we discussed is an upcoming alumni fundraiser Central High School is doing.
