As I See It
Thanks for the memories, Ueck

Although I wasn’t able to go to opening day for the Milwaukee Brewers, it was great to see the way the team paid tribute to Bob Uecker.
The ballpark isn’t quite the same without Ueck calling the game, sharing his stories and enjoying the way he would tell a joke.
I’ve had the opportunity to go to a number of opening days over the years I’ve been in broadcasting. He’d always be there, chatting with one of the players or one of the behind the scenes people with the team. It was a special moment for one of the young reporters I worked with when they would get up enough courage to ask him for a quick interview. Usually, it wouldn’t take more than a few moments for other crews to come put their microphones close with the guarantee that they’d get a great soundbite from someone who was not just a Wisconsin legend, but a true national legend.
The press box is a little quieter now, but I guarantee that anytime anyone from the crew hits one out of the park, fans, including myself, are replaying that famous home run call in our minds.
Thanks for the memories, Bob.

After the Brewers’ opening losses of 4 in a row, it looks like the team is honoring Uke by playing the way he did.
