Besides a new mayor at city hall, there’ll also be some new faces on the Common Council representing their respective districts.

On Tuesday, three incumbents lost their seats on the council.

In District 7, Mac Kiel was looking for a second term on the council. She lost to Gary Padesky, a former council member himself. Padesky had previously served six years on the council.

Another incumbent seeking another term, Chris Woodard, who represented District 9, lost to first time candidate Aron Newberry.

A member since 2011, Doug Happel was defeated by Lisa Weston in the District 12 race.

There were two other competitive council races on Tuesday.

Former City Council President Martin Gaul came up short in his bid to return to City Hall. He was defeated by Crystal Bedford in the District 11 contest.

Rosanne Northwood beat Paul Brown for the seat representing District 13 on the city’s south side. Both candidates cited wanting to serve the community as one of the reasons they ran for the first time for a political office.

The big loser is the current make-up of the La Crosse Common Council.
All incumbents lost and the current Council president lost her Mayor’s race.
The past 4 years of City government with Mayor Reynolds at the helm have not been pretty. Voters may not know a lot about the new replacements, but they figure it’s better than what we’ve had.
