After three years in Winona, La Crosse works out $200,000 deal with big riverboat cruise line

The city of La Crosse is getting ready for the big riverboats to come back for another season.

Members of the council’s Finance and Personnel Committee approved Thursday a docking agreement with American Cruise Lines — so the American Queen and its other boats can dock at Riverside Park for the next 10 years.

The company will pay $20,000 a year to the city, through that agreement.

The ships returned to La Crosse last year, after choosing to dock in Winona for a three-year period.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.

    Hi Brad. You might want to check and see if they bought the American Queen from by their competition. Last I heard it was possibly going to be scrapped.
