Construction sign at La Crosse Street for a Highway 16 project that lasts through summer.

Beginning Monday, Highway 16 will be under construction for most of summer from La Crosse Street to Kinney Coulee Road — which is just before the Blaine’s Farm & Fleet entrance.

The Wisconsin DOT says Highway 16 will only be open to northbound traffic, while it works on the La Crosse River bridges. Southbound traffic will be detoured along US 53 and I-90.

Once that’s complete, the highway will be open to one-lane traffic in each direction, as crews work on the intersection.

The entire project calls for work to both La Crosse River bridges, road surfacing over the entire stretch and signal upgrades at the intersection of Highway 16 (Losey Boulevard) and La Crosse Street.

The construction runs through most of summer.
