Reckless homicide charge dismissed against La Crosse man

A charge of 2nd Degree Reckless Homicide filed against a La Crosse man earlier this year is dismissed by a judge on Monday morning.

Erik Sims, 44, was charged in late January with reckless homicide related to the death of a woman who died of a drug overdose in 2023.

At his initial appearance hearing in February, he was given a $10,000 signature bond by Judge Elliott Levine.

His attorney, Christopher Zachar, filed a motion to dismiss the charge on grounds there wasn’t enough evidence against his client to prove the case.

At a hearing on Monday morning, Judge Gloria Doyle heard arguments from both Zachar and Assistant District Attorney Danielle Kranz.

Judge Doyle granted the motion to dismiss the charge against Sims.

He still faces charges of criminal trespass, criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct in a separate case filed against him last month.

Sims was released on a $500 signature bond in that case.
