As I See It

One of the things I love about living in La Crosse is the opportunity to just take a walk.

This time of year, it’s fun to walk the marsh trails and check out the migrating ducks, geese, and swans that are headed back home from their winter in the south.  Even better, it’s too cold yet for mosquitoes.

There are plenty of trails elsewhere, too. Up on the bluffs and around Hixon Forest, a short drive down to Goose Island or just taking a stroll alongside Pettibone or Riverside parks.

A favorite that’s close to me that opens on April 15 is the Paul E. Stry Nature Preserve just off Highway 33. It’s a hidden gem, not very big, and not often busy, but it has paved trails with a stream running through it, a pond and a couple of manmade waterfalls.

The point being is that we all need to step back and take time to enjoy some of the beauty of what we have here in the Coulee Region. Step away from the worries, frustrations, and stresses of life and breathe in some fresh air, soak up some sunshine, and enjoy a few moments in our backyard.
