La Crosse County board gets committee appointments, shows support for UW-L science center

La Crosse’s city council getting sworn in, along with a new mayor, was not the only local government body to meet on Tuesday.
The La Crosse County Board had its second meeting of April on Tuesday night
Supervisors approved appointments to several county committees and also heard an update on the efforts to sell 111 acres of the former county farm, along Lake Neshonoc in West Salem.
A board’s Executive Committee decided last week against offering the land for sale at this time.
Tuesday, the board also supported a resolution calling on state lawmakers to include the construction of Phase II of the Prairie Springs Science Center at UW-L in the state’s next two-year budget. The original Prairie Springs building opened in 2018, but Republicans in Madison still have not approved the seconds half of the project.
The board met on Tuesday, rather than on its usual Monday or Thursday because of the spring election, even though members of the board were not up for election this spring. They will be again in 2026.
