Two former student Republicans at UW-La Crosse have been chosen as leaders for the 3rd District GOP. Hannah Testin is now chairwoman of the district Republican Party and Ryan Huebsch is vice-chair.

The two were elected to the posts over the weekend, during a party caucus held in Osseo, Wis. Both will serve in those positions for two years.

Testin served as vice-chair of the district GOP for five years. She’s married to Wisconsin state Sen. Patrick Testin (R-Stevens Point). She had been part of the College Republicans, while attending UW-L.

Huebsch lives in Onalaska, and has been a Republican candidate for state Assembly in 2022 and ’24. He’s also the son of former Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch.

Testin succeeds former district chair Bill Feehan, who is now a vice-chairman with the Republican Party of Wisconsin.

Change in local GOP leadership was desperately needed. Recent past effort was worse than pathetic.

I’m not sure that these two have what is needed in the months/years ahead. I hope that they do, but Huebsch was unsuccessful in ousting Doyle twice and both are pretty young. I envision a craggy, media-shy schemer, good at finding damaging hypocrisy as the type needed.
The area Democrats are battle-seasoned, flush with money and control the la Crosse County Board, La Crosse Mayor, La Crosse Common Council, La Crosse School Board, 3 Assembly seats and a State Senate seat. Overcoming this requires uncommon skill, money and devastating plotting. Are these two that sort?
