La Crosse’s Parks and Rec urging hikers to stay off soft trails

Published

on

La Crosse’s Park and Rec Department is asking people to be careful using the many trails around the city due to the weather.

Sami Meyer, the Outdoor Recreation director, said that as temperatures warm up during the day then drop below freezing at night, it can cause damage to the trails.

It also causes erosion issues plus maintenance costs for the city.

She suggested that if you’re on an unpaved trail and you’re leaving footprints or tire tracks, you should avoid the trail.

Instead, Meyer said, stay on sidewalks or paved trails until the ground firms up again.
