Hundreds turn out to protest Trump policies

Published

on

Hundreds of people gathered along Losey Boulevard and State Road on Saturday afternoon to protest against the policies and actions of the Trump Administration and their impact on them.

People of all ages lined both sides of the two streets for two hours during the Hands Off protest, holding signs, banners, or flags, waving at passing vehicles as they sought to get their message out.

Honking horns from passing cars was a frequent sound heard around the intersection as drivers and passengers showed support for those standing along the curb. Cheers from the crowd were a common response to the horns.

Tasha Lewis, one of the organizers, said about 300 people signed up to come to the event but many more showed up.

“I think there are multiple reasons why people are here today. I think what it all comes down to is people are disgruntled about what is going on in Congress, in the White House with Trump and with Elon Musk and things like that. For a variety of reasons, we are here today to dissent what is going on and what is happening. We’re banding together, we’re speaking out, we’re sharing our voices. We want change.”

Lewis said she’d seen people of all ages at the protest.

One woman who spoke to WIZM News said she was there with her message to the administration to keep their hands off Medicare. She has a disabled son, who stood next to her, who relies on those payments as part of his care.  She was impressed and happy that so many people came to the event.

Signs on topics including education, women’s rights, Canada, and Elon Musk were among those seen along the protest lines.

There were counter protests as some Trump supporters were seen driving down Losey Boulevard with Trump flags flying from their vehicles.

This Hands Off protest in La Crosse was one of many around the country on Saturday.

Thousands of people took part in more than 1,200 demonstrations planned in every state according to the Associated Press.

    Kevin,

Thanks for reporting on this. I hope WIZM and your staff do your due diligence or fair reporting if things go opposite of what this protest is promoting.

No one likes change but I do hope our country goes in a positive manner and we all get better times then where we were coming from, I don’t want our times to get worse or stay the same.

Nice family event with one of your pictures showing a sign with the word WH**E on it.

This also shows we have people in this city that don’t want our country to get better. Stay the course of downfall in the terms of monetary. Only care about social issues.

Tough times brings tough men. Good times bring weak men.

the policies and actions of the Trump Administration and their impact on them.

Yo, WIZM, if you’re going to “report” on this, why not get an answer from the protesters as to what specifically is the so-called “impact” on them. I’ll wait.

Love the signs used by the protesters:
Hands off Education: because who doesn’t want their children to be taught social activism in school while they can’t do basic algebra or read/write cursive.
Hands off Libraries: because who doesn’t want their 4 year old to attend a drag queen story hour sponsored by the La Crosse Public Library.
Hands off Medicare: because who doesn’t want waste, fraud and abuse to continue.
Hands off Human Rights: because who couldn’t support Biden/Harris refusing to negotiate for peace despite the loss of an entire generation of Ukrainian men, because they could take Russian men down with them.

      Hands off, indeed.

Walden you nailed it! Democrat voters are the essence of futility. They do the same things over and over again and expected different results.

Community after community, country after country, the democrat/socialist voter casts their vote for big government. Communities and countries go broke and eventually turn into pits of despair, dung and crime and death. Yet over and over the democrat voter says, please sir, may I have another?

It must be the influence of Satan; I can come up with no other motivation for people righteously striving to become mediocre or worse.

Ivan Garcia’s emails and texts were busy on this one.
The guy just loves to re-live his college days.

“…people…gathered along Losey Boulevard and State Road…”

What you should have said was “Democrats gathered outside the La Crosse County Democratic Party headquarters at 2300 State Road”

La Crosse Democrat party leader Ivan still has time to organize another protest near his Losey-State Rd headquarters following the Supreme’s order to allow Trump’s gang deportations. Maybe he could get a volume discount on some Sign-pro banners for his leftist matrons saying “Hands-Off our Venezuelan gangs.”
