One last chance to hear details about La Crosse school referendum

A series of public meetings about the November La Crosse school referendum is scheduled to conclude Wednesday night, at a school which would be directly affected by consolidation plans.

Logan High School hosts the information session, starting at 6:30. It’s the 11th such session in a series that began in August, and the district says there are no plans to add more meetings before the November 8th election. 

The referendum calls for $194 million to turn a Trane Company office building into a big high school that would merge Central and Logan. 

The district has said that if the ballot question is defeated, it’s likely that Logan High students would be moved into Central within a few years, because declining enrollment does not support the need for two high schools.

Critics of the consolidation idea say the district’s plans would turn Logan High into a middle school, no matter how the referendum turns out.
